A study at the University of Karbala examines the possibility of reusing treated water to provide quantitative and qualitative sustainability for groundwater reservoirs

researched a master’s thesis in the College of Engineering at the University of Karbala (assessment of artificial recharge on groundwater levels and quality using treated water by water basins) by researcher Fatima Asaad Mahdi. The study, which was chaired by the President of the University of Karbala, Prof. Dr. Bassem Khalil Nayel, and the membership of each of Prof. Dr. Bassem Shabaa Abd Jassim from the University of Baghdad and Assistant Professor Dr. Haider Hussein Alwan from the University of Karbala, aims to know the effect of using artificial recharge to raise groundwater levels, after pumping quantities of Treated water. The study included building a numerical model to simulate groundwater levels and predict the amount of increase resulting from the application of artificial recharge at different pumping rates.
